If you follow along with my film reviews, you know how much I loved Ti West’s X. Pearl is equally brilliant, showcasing Mia Goth’s ability to monologue as well as emote in unbelievable ways.
Goth is Pearl, a young woman living with her parents on a remote farm while her husband is fighting in WWI. Her mother is oppressive and controlling, her father ill and stuck in a wheelchair.
Pearl wants nothing more than to leave, to be famous, so when a theater producer holds an audition in her town, she jumps at the chance. Pearl doesn’t take the rejection well, and goes on a killing spree that is truly something to behold.
Pearl is an impressive addition to the X universe, giving us a gory, psychotic character whose life will never go according to her plan. A great addition to the horror genre.
