Book Review – Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

It's not often a book this fabulous comes along. Perfect in every degree.

There are few books that have me so obsessed that I can’t stop reading on the first page and hold me until the very last. So few, in fact, that I only have two and a half shelves allocated to my permanent collection of books. Fourth Wing is now one of those books.

I love me some dragon fantasy. Throw in some adult language and violence and some spicy romance, and I’m hooked. This novel, told from the perspective of a sarcastic spitfire of a female lead, follows students in their first year of this world’s military school which requires bonding with a dragon. Death is likely, almost certain, but so are the bonds made with other cadets.

The world itself is deep in lore that unfolds slowly as the story needs, adding vibrancy to already interesting characters. And the magic. So much magic that Hogwarts wouldn’t contain it.

The love story is hot but believable even in the context of dragons and mind reading and shadow wielding. Even when the main character realizes everything she was taught is a lie, the love is true. And it makes the heartbreak all the more real.

You never know what’s around the next turn of the page, and as I said, I had a hard time putting this down. Every free moment was spent with this unputdownable book. Can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Five out of five stars. Call me a Rebecca Yarros convert.
