Movie Review -Terrifier 3

I’ll preface this review by saying that I’ve not seen the first two Terrifier films. I knew by way of word of mouth that these films are gory torture style films, but knew not much else.

The third installment of this franchise follows Sienna and her brother as they struggle to deal with having survived the torture stylings of Art the Clown five years after his attack. He’s been dormant, but when he awakens, he finds Sienna and her brother – and things get bloodier.

If you’re like me and really hadn’t gotten into this films, it’s essentially Saw style torture without the lessons from Jigsaw, but instead at the hands of Art the Clown. He doesn’t speak, only mimes his expressions like Charlie Chaplin spent eternity in hell and Satan spat him out to live again.

I had heard rumors of vomiting in the theaters, but I didn’t find it that gross. Maybe I’m desensitized. Maybe Jigsaw shocked me first, so Art isn’t as shocking. Or maybe I watched films like Bad Taste and Dead Alive when I was younger, so I know this kind of gore isn’t new. I’ve seen it before, and done in better ways.

The Santa and Christmas theme of the film is what really drew me in. Having seen it on Halloween, it was a nice segue into the next holiday season. It’s watchable, too, but mostly because Sienna is brought to life by such a likable actress. Lauren LeVera is on my radar now. Hope she has the opportunity to do great things.

Three out of five stars, for I’ve see this level of brutality before, but I like the main character more than the violence. And maybe that’s the point? but I doubt it.
