This sequel follows Skye Riley, a mega superstar singer on the verge of a world tour. Her last boyfriend died in a tragic car accident that injured her and sent her into rehab for drug abuse. When she visits a friend looking for pain meds, he kills himself in front of her and passes the smiling demon or whatever it is onto her.
What follows is an unrelenting series of events in Skye Riley’s life that tear her world apart. The demon feeds off of her mental health issues and the broken relationships with the people around her. She has a hard time figuring out what is reality and what isn’t.
And you know what? As the viewer, you can’t trust anything either. That is the true success of this film. Just when you have it figured out, it zags in another direction. It goes places that I did not expect. For a sequel, this one ups the original in every way without copying it. Great job in that department.
Naomi Scott nails Skye Riley’s character. She was so believable, I was convinced she was really a Taylor Swift-like pop icon in real life. Even the panic attacks were so very believable. Can’t wait to see what she does next.
Four out of five stars here. Proof that sequels can be good when done right.
