I had no idea what this film was about beyond knowing it was about a woman who goes on a first date and one of them turns out to be a serial killer. What ensues is a bloody, violent, drug induced chase through the Oregon backcountry as each of them tries to survive.
Willa Fitzgerald is “The Lady” and Kyle Gallner is “The Demon”. Both actors are at the top of their game. It is Fitzgerald who really steals the show, but Gallner finally gave a performance that I can get behind. Barbara Hershey also has a small role and adds her great presence as well.
This film, show completely on 35mm film, is a brilliant addition to the horror genre. It is an unpredictable piece of art, full of nonlinear storytelling and red herrings. Director J.T Mollner will be someone I watch for in the future. More like this, Hollywood. Please!
Four and a half stars out of five. I’m not going to give away anymore of the story for you should go in blind. It’ll make for a better first time viewing.
