Movie Review – It Ends With Us

Was not expecting this to be great. Good, maybe. But then it remained true to the book for the most part, and I found myself pleasantly surprised.

If you’ve not read the book, the story follows Lily as she opens a flower shop and falls in love with Ryle. Then the abuse starts, a reminder of what her mother stayed in during her childhood. Lily must choose between her husband and leaving.

Blake Lively really carries this. Her performance is so engaging and heartbreaking that it’s hard to stop watching. Really, this is the most likable protagonist we’ve seen in a while, and I forgot what having that in a film is like since trends tend to be flawed means unlikable. Supporting cast shows up to, especially Jenny Slate who plays the friend/sister.

The only thing I really missed is Lily engrossing herself in her Dear Ellen journals, but the film is so goo without them that I can overlook the fact that they are only seen in one scene in passing.

Four out of five stars for making me ugly cry in a movie theater. Being tissues for the happy/sad waterworks that will likely ensue.
