The third installment in Ti West’s trilogy follows Maxine to Hollywood as she tries to transition from pornography to mainstream acting. 1980s Los Angelos is plagued by a serial killer and protests against movies about Satanic circumstances. And Maxine finds herself on the brink of stardom right when her past catches up with her.
Mia Goth is great as Maxine, but Kevin Bacon outshines her in this. He makes good use of every limited second of screen time he has. Elizabeth Debicki is memorable too for sheer presence on screen.
Otherwise, this film does not hit on the same level as the first two. It’s good and very watchable with a few good kills, but not the same experience this time around. Still, go see this one. It’s a neon coated bloody good time whilst singing along to Bette Davis Eyes.
Three and a half stars out of five.
