Movie Review – Kinds of Kindness

Starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemmons, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, and Willem Defoe, Kinds of Kindness is three stories utilizing the same actors. Each has the same themes surrounding control and manipulation as abuse. The characters must choose how far they are willing to go to earn and keep someone’s love, regardless of how toxic the relationship is. For me, it’s about the lies we tell ourselves to justify staying in toxic relationships.

Yorgos Lanthimos does what he does best here making a slow burn three times over, giving the viewer a good payoff to justify sitting through the story. I’m officially a fan and wow was this good.

The acting is superb by all actors involved. Each brings something unique to the table, from Emma Stone’s quirkiness to Jesse Plemmons being a little subdued and socially awkward. They brought this to life in a way that made the movie great.

Four out of five stars.
