Movie Review – The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy follows Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) after an accident on set left him injured. When he is called back for another movie to be the stunt double for Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), he shows up thinking it is finally his second shot with director Jody (Emily Blunt) who he ghosted after his accident. When he is pulled into a plot to find Tom Ryder after he goes missing, he has to find a way to survive a situation that becomes very volatile and still find a way to get the girl in the end.

This film is a satirical masterpiece. It knows exactly what it is and gives us a rare glimpse at what really goes into making all those big budget films we flock to the theater for and it manages to do it in an amusing way while also having a lot of heart. At the heart is Ryan Gosling giving us another stellar, and at times, surprisingly emotional performance. Emily Blunt is equally great, and they make the perfect on screen duo.

If you’re a fan of rock music from the 80’s, this film is for you. The entire soundtrack will have you tapping your foot.

Unsurprisingly, if you’re going to make a film about what goes into all the high stakes stunts, you need to make it look great and The Fall Guy does. Even the end credits are filled with real life shots of all the stunt doubles for Gosling doing what they do best.

Four out of five stars because, God, Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling are great in this.
