Book Review – Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares

I only recently discovered that Ann Brashares wrote a fifth book in the sisterhood of the traveling pants series. By then, it was not longer in print and I had to find a second hand copy, not that it matters. The book was one I would have read regardless.

It follows Tibby, Bridget, Carmen, and Lena as the struggle through their adult lives. When one of them suddenly dies (I won’t tell you which one), the other three are thrown into grief violently and it leaves them grasping for how to go on. Soon, they discover that their friend left them letters, clues, and love to help them survive.

This book is tragically sad. I cried so many times. But the ending is uplifting and full of love, so the sadness you endure reading it is worth it. Brashares still has that funny yet sad way of writing that throws you into the world of the characters and you never want to leave. You feel as if you know all four girls.

I now wish they would make one more movie and tell this story. How sad and heartbreaking and uplifting it would be. One ticket please.

Four out of five stars for making me cry and fall in love with those characters all over again.
