Book Review – Burnt Offerings by Robert Marasco

This is the book that inspired Stephen King’s The Shining, and it’s amazing.

A family rents a house for the summer to escape their NYC apartment. The house is huge, an estate really. Not long after they arrive, the house takes its toll on them, making each ill in their own way. When they try to leave, they realize there is no escape.

If you haven’t read this gem, I highly recommend it. It’s a spooky haunted house and family drama all in one. The characters are great, the writing is superb, and the house is truly an evil entity.

Five out of five stars for one of the best horror novels I’ve ever read.
