Movie Review – Priscilla

Telling the story of Priscilla Presley from her own perspective is a great in theory. Much harder to pull off in reality.

Priscilla follows the fourteen year old who fell in love with the most famous man on the planet. Through drug addiction, rumored affairs, and violent episodes she stays. At least until she has had enough and leaves.

This one is on brand for Sophia Coppola. Glittery wardrobes and colorful montages set to time period worthy pop music hits. If you didn’t know she directed this when you walked in, you would still see her stamp on it. For better or worse.

It falls short of really giving Priscilla any personality. She just walks from room to lonely room wearing sad expressions. Woe is Priscilla until Elvis comes home.

Three out of five stars for me on this one. Watchable, but lacking any deep understanding of what try’s loneliness in the face of love looks like.
