Road of Bones follows Teig and Prentiss, a pair of ghost hunter documentarians, as they travel through Siberia on an old road littered with the bones of those who built it. They meet Kaskil, their native guide as they plan on searching abandoned gulags in the area. Along the way they pick up stranded Nari along the road.
When they arrive at their accommodations, they find the town eerily abandoned and are attacked by what they assume are wolves but turn out to be something much more terrifying. They find Una, a small girl and only survivor, and drive back the way they came. Monsters follow, the pursuit long and cold through the Siberian winter night.
This novel hits the ground running. Golden doesn’t give you time to adjust as one moment turns into the next, but you somehow know every character. Every fear and regret. It’s a face paced horror story set at fifty below. A great spooky season read, and the perfect book if you’re stuck inside on a winters day. I couldn’t put it down.
Five out of five stars here for Christopher Golden created the perfect creature feature.
