This year, I chose the Galapagos tortoise for my annual Earth Day drawing. They spend their days basking in the sun and grazing on leaves and grass. Their numbers have declined steadily leading to at least two of the subspecies to go extinct. The largest threats to these animals are poachers and habitat loss. They are hunted for their oil and, sadly, collection into private collections or zoos.

I donate $5 from the sale of each of my animal portraits to the World Wildlife Fund. The WWF works with communities around the world to protect animal habitats and fight the effects of climate change. If you would like to donate the the WWF directly or get involved in your area, visit their website.

Animal portraits are available at my Etsy store.
