Movie Review: Alice, Darling

Three friends go to a cabin for a week alone when one of them, after isolating herself and pushing the other two away, reveals that she is in an abusive relationship. When the abuser shows up unannounced, the girls must choose between friendship and letting one of them go.

Anna Kendrick is spectacular in this little film. The film itself is quiet, a slow moving thoughtful take on how we respond to trauma. You can feel Kendrick’s experiences within the role as if you were the one experiencing them. I wish she would do more independent films. She was made for them.

If you like films about enduring friendship in the face of traumatic events, this one is for you.
