If you have ever been to a famous location on tour or vacation, you probably noticed that humans tend to carve or graffiti their names onto anything and everything. It’s the human way, it would seem. Which is why England chose to fence off Stonehenge to preserve it for future generations.

The rocks, weighing several tons each, were brought in from Preseli Hills in Wales and the West Woods in Marlborough Downs. Why any primitive culture would bring such heavy stones over 180 miles to Stonehenge’s location is still a mystery. One that may never be solved.

While it is roped off, you can do an entire circuit around the area. It is impressive from all sides. At the visitor center, you can delve into the deeper history of Stonehenge which I did until I realized they were also having a dahlia exhibition on site.

I always get distracted by pretty things, especially when they come with a pleasant smell.

An entire garden was set up outside of the visitor center which I could not help but photograph before I left.

It was like the stones were making me do it. They had been calling me to visit my whole life knowing that when I finally arrived, the flowers would be there to celebrate with me.

It was the magic of Stonehenge. Maybe that is what the creators meant it to be. A place where one could find something up lifting in life, however small.

Or maybe it is just a gigantic sun dial. That is the mystery of Stonehenge. We will never know the answer and that is what makes it so intriguing.
