Movie Review – John Wick Chapter 3, Parabellum

Si vis pacem, para bellum. If you want peace, prepare for war. That pretty much sums up the third installment in Keanu Reeves’ action shoot ’em up. It’s violent while also being poetic. I would like to believe that the first real fight of the movie, which takes place in the New York Public Library, is a metaphor for knowledge being power. Even when John Wick uses a book of poetry to break a guys jaw.

The entire film, from start to finish, is one chase and fight after another. Then Halle Barry arrives and pumps some much needed female toughness to a mostly male cast. She does what Halle Barry does best. She brings sexy strength with some vulnerability mixed in, and she wields a gun like she was born doing it.

If you liked the second movie, you will love this one. My movie buddy was not a fan of the second film and so he wasn’t a huge fan of this one. I, however, think the entire trilogy deserves credit for bringing new life into the stale action genre. Keanu, who I often feel like he signs on for every shitty movie he can find (relicas, 47 Ronin), brings John Wick into the modern realm of action movies that will stand the test of time. A hard thing to do since most action movies don’t.
